Hello Amy Lyndon,
I am a working Actor, but I’m finding myself spending a lot of money on Acting Classes, Workshops, Online submission services, and just traveling TO these jobs that I do book. Is there a certain amount of money that I should spend and beyond that is just throwing money down the toilet? What should I reserve the most money for? Is it worth it traveling hours to a job that I’m not paid for, but I really like the script? Thank you for answering these questions!
I feel ya! To tell you the truth, an actor needs to act!! No one is going to find you in a workshop or in a class. It’s time you get out there and act in anything you can get your hands on whether you are being paid or not. You don’t know where your break is going to come from. Many careers have been made on the festival circuit. I had a student that was found when an editor was editing a short film he was acting in and a Producer from Will Smith’s company walked by and heard his voice in the editing bay and stopped in. A day later my student auditioned for Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, booked the Pilot and was shooting the following week. It didn’t get picked up, but it was an awesome IMDB credit, experience and demo for him. Make your money useful for travel to and from locations. Work begets work.

I’m recording a tape of my son for the Antarctica Talent Search. I am a bit of a technophobe, and have never done any video editing. The search requires each actor submit 4 scenes plus their slate. Should we record all in one take? Or should I ask a more tech-savvy person to help me combine the separate clips? Will either way look better for the casting director? Any advice would be great. Thanks Amy!
The slate needs to be attached to the scenes and they should all flow into each other. Unless it’s an ecocast and in that case I believe they need them all to be separate. Either way, they should be shot separately and then edited seamlessly together in imovie or through some sort of editing software. I’m sure you can find someone that’s great at putting that sort of thing together.

I’m not an actress. I’m a grandmother who has some good ideas for films. The ideas aren’t doing me any good and since I live in Pennsylvania not California I don’t know anyone who could recommend anyone. Do you have any ideas about that?
I say get yourself a great writing program and write them yourself. A novel is always the best way to go because novels from unknown writers are a better way to be purchased and then made into screenplays. Other than that, you can write a screenplay or hire a reputable writer with a track record and a great reputation to write it and then sell it through http://inktip.com or submit it to literary agencies.
