Showcase Winner: Rizelle Januk

It’s that time again! This time our featured showcase winner, Rizelle Januk, hails all the way from South Africa.

Though Rizelle loved creating characters as a child, it wasn’t until she performed her first monologue at fifteen that she realized the power she had to evoke emotions in others. “It was surprising to me and amazingly refreshing,” she remembers. “So I thought hmm, maybe I should see where this could take me.”

The boundless possibilities of acting seduced her at once. Rizelle pursued them in her education, receiving the highest drama marks in her high school going on to earn a BA in Drama and Performance Studies and Media and Cultural Studies in 2013.

Thirsting for opportunities to develop her skills, Rizelle has cultivated credits both many and diverse. These include short indie features DAYFLY and NYE EMAAR, for the Dubai Industry, music videos (featuring on MTV Base and Channel O), and  commercials for the ANC South Africa, Orange Mobile  Europe and Vaseline intensive care USA. In 2014 Rizelle decided to create, direct, and star in her own web series called “The Actress Life,” following the trials and adventures of her character Mertyle, then filming on her BlackBerry 9360. Of that time, she says, “I was hungry to be heard.”

Already Internet savvy, Rizelle recognized an emerging platform. Though a novice at self-taping, she immediately began submitting to projects online. Eventually, she came across Cast It in 2014 and began her bids for the monthly showcase. After making it into the top 10 on her second attempt, she internalized her feedback and made it into the top 6. She is eager to make an international splash in the entertainment industry. “I really love that major motion pictures cast through Cast It Talent,” Rizelle enthused. “I love the showcases and how easy it is to submit for roles. It works for me because right now I’m in South Africa, my international career depends on international exposure and until I start working in California…Cast It Talent is my method of interaction with Hollywood.”

These days Rizelle is working on a reality TV show to be aired South Africa. (Highlights from previous seasons available here: She is also involved in a campaign called “Girl Makes Indie Movie.” (More at this link: Though immersed in these endeavors, Rizelle is, as ever, eager to see where her career will take her next. “The thrill and happiness [acting] gives me as an individual is irreplaceable,” Rizelle reflects, adding playfully, “I would never change it for any amount of candy in the world.”

To Rizelle, many congratulations. To the rest of us, let us be heartened by yet another example of how the modern actor is now in more control of her own career than ever before. So dream big and do bigger.
